Istanbul’s newest canine influencer Boji

This morning while searching for some interesting piece of news for the PawzNRead community, we stumbled upon Istanbul’s newest canine influencer. His name is Boji, an Anatolian Shepherd mix who is grabbing headlines.

Boji is already an internet sensation. On checking his Instagram handle boji_ist I realised in less than two weeks [since open to public] Boji has attracted almost 40K followers. Boy that’s some popularity. We are still struggling to reach 500.

Meet Boji

Boji loves to move around the city

Boji, the much-loved stray, is quite a well-known paw of Istanbul. He loves to take the public transport to move around the city, sometimes in a train, sometimes in the tram. Sometimes he takes the ferry and bus too. Due to his calm and friendly demeanour, he is always welcome everywhere.

On that note, here’s an important fact. More than 100,000 dogs roam the streets of Istanbul. As a country, Turkey has a ‘no kill, no capture’ law towards all its stray animals.

Back to Boji now, apparently, he is quite disciplined too. Instead of rushing into a train or a tram, he waits for humans to disembark before hopping in. Boji travels almost 30 kilometres on weekdays, as reported by Reuters – now you see why he is Istanbul’s newest canine influencer. While he loves to spread out and rest over the weekend.

A dog with a purpose

Every dog has a purpose, and we think Boji’s purpose is to add some furry happiness to the lives of people in Istanbul. Boji almost urges people to stop and take in the moment before rushing off to do their chores. In fact, several commuters have now started clicking pictures of Boji to post on the Gram.

Friends in Istanbul, if you spot Boji, do stop and say hi to him on our behalf too. And friends from around the world, if you know of a dog like Boji in your country/community, tell us more about them.
