I was asked to share my thoughts about today’s big news, a new and rather exciting feature by Google. But since I like to keep things simple, its actually a question: ‘have you found your dog’s famous look-alike yet?
Well humans call me their boss-dog, not sure how serious they are about it. But I’ve always felt as if there’s more to me than meets the eye. You know I’ve had this uncanny feeling of being famous. Just that I couldn’t put a finger on it until today. Thanks to Google’s Art & Culture app, now my royal connection is proven. I’ve royal look-alikes!
Now I know why I feel famous
Because a portrait of my look-alike is housed at the Yale Center for British Art. Can you believe that? I’ve proof. On reading I learnt that it dates to the 1800s. It is of a couple of foxhounds, perhaps my ancestors, with a terrier at the property of some famous person. The portrait is made by a famous British artist William Barraud.
Now I was curious. Could there be other famous art look-alikes of mine too?
Lo and behold there are two more. One also from the mid-1800s a portrait of a brown dog, certainly my ancestor, with a young well-dressed boy. A portrait by the American artist Ammi Phillips that’s housed at the Chrysler Musuem of Art.
And the third is even older from the 1600s called ‘The Shepherdess’ by Dutch painter Cuyp, Jacob Gerritsz. It’s housed at the Dordrechts Museum.

And I’m told is its quite easy to find your dog’s famous look-alike. Here are the steps (I’m a bit detail oriented that way):
- Open the app on your mobile photo
- Click or upload a photo of your dog (or any other pet)
- Voila, you can check the famous art look-alikes of your pet (you can read the art descriptions too)
