There couldn’t have been a more welcome move than knowing that now there is provision for dog therapy at a Dubai foundation. As reported by The National, the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children has announced that now survivors of abuse under their care will spend time with dogs and other animals. Other animals include horses, rabbits, fish and birds.

What does Dubai Foundation for Women and Children do?
Established in 2007, the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) is the first licensed non-profit organisation in the UAE that runs specifically for the care of women and children. The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children offers immediate protection and support services for women and children in the UAE against domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking.
What we know so far
The survivors of various abuses under Dubai Foundation for Women and Children’s care will now receive animal therapy alongside traditional therapy for rehabilitation. This programme is aimed at supporting victims’ recovery and helping them build healthy and positive relationships once again.
This wonderful initiative is being sponsored by Himalaya Global Management Limited and supported by The American Wellness Centre and Posh Paws Pets Nursery and Trading. What’s more Dubai Police’s K-9 unit will also be part of this unique and mindful initiative. The progress of the victims will be closely observed to evaluate the effectiveness of this programme.
In other news
Several other organisations in the UAE are also welcoming dogs to their premises to bring positivity and happiness. Recently the Al Jalila Children’s Speciality Hospital teamed up with ‘Reading Dogs’ to let children interact and read with a dog called Mickey at their premises.
Select schools such as Gems Metropole School in Motor City are also evaluating the multiple benefits of letting students interact with dogs. Recently the school invited a four-year-old dog Lotus to spend time with the students.
