Recently the American Kennel Club (AKC) has added 200th breed to its expanding dog registry, recognising Bracco Italiano as a new dog breed. As AKC recognises a new dog breed, Gina DiNardo, AKC Executive Secretary said: “We at the AKC are thrilled to welcome our 200th breed to the registry. The Bracco Italiano is a strong, active and sturdy breed of dog that would make a great companion for active families. The breed loves people and would be best suited for a family that can give it the love and attention it needs. We always encourage people to do their research to find the right breed for their lifestyle.”

A hunting dog at heart
With its origin dating to the fourth or the fifth century, the Bracco Italiano is an ancient breed. A gundog from Italy, Bracco Italiano is a hunting dog at heart with a versatile character.
According to AKC, the Bracco Italiano is a hunter, pointer and retriever developed to accommodate the hunters’ needs. The breed is tireless in the field. They are powerful and need daily exercise. At the same time, being loyal, affectionate and playful this breed thrives on human companionship. These dogs are known to be sensitive and gentle-natured and become close friends with children.
Over to physical attributes
The Bracco Italiano dog typically weighs around 55-90 pounds and grow to heights of 21-27 inches. The life expectancy of the Bracco Italiano breed is 10-14 years.
According to AKC, the Bracco Italiano dog has lean limbs, well-developed muscles and a sculpted head giving this breed a powerful appearance. Having short coats this breed is low on maintenance, requiring only a few minutes of brushing each week to keep the coat in good condition.
