Meet Shafi

Meet Shafi, a 1.5-year-old desert mix who is looking for a long-term foster home, even better if it turns into a forever home.

The name Shafi is so beautiful that I quickly Googled to find out the meaning. Among other meanings, Shafi in Arabic means the healer. Ironically, the healer needs healing.

So, will you give Shafi a chance to heal?

Did someone say second chance? I’d love that.

More about Shafi

Currently in a foster home in Ras Al Khaimah, Shafi is nervous and skittish. That’s because the boy has experienced lack of love and human interaction. Before being rescued, Shafi was tied to someone’s balcony for six months. Can you believe that?

Now Shafi needs a loving home with a patient human, preferably one with prior experience of handling nervous dogs. Someone who will understand that Shafi might growl and snap sometimes. Since Shafi will need time to adjust to a new environment, he will need a human who mostly works from home. He needs a quiet environment with no other dog. When a visitor comes home, Shafi will have to go and sit in the crate (that will be provided) until he is well adjusted. Importantly, the long-term foster or forever home must be in a building that allows dogs.

I’m trying something new (I saw a cat climbing up this tree)

A dog is for life

Sadly enough, Shafi’s story is not uncommon. Remember we wrote about Ruby who was also left tied to a pole? And Shafi and Ruby are not alone. There is a steady rise in the number of dogs being abandoned. Unless they find their new and loving forever homes, their future and a chance at life are questionable.

Here’s more about Ruby

“Awareness and education are crucial when it comes to bringing home a pet. It requires a commitment for a lifetime. We must understand that a dog is not a present for Christmas or birthdays alone. The dog will live for a certain period of time and will require love, care and commitment. And we must carefully assess our situation and life stage before bringing a dog home. Once we all realise this, the cases of abandonment will hopefully reduce,” said independent rescuer Jasmeen Bhirani.
